A court in Uzbekistan found photographer Umida Akhmedova guilty of “defaming” and “insulting” the Uzbek people in a series of her photographs and a documentary film. Akhmedova defended her work as reflecting the unique identity of the Uzbek people. Akhmedova was exempted from punishment under an amnesty.
