The U.S. is "troubled by reports of violence in Moscow during the protests on May 6th and by the arrests that have been carried out over the last three days," a Department of State spokesman stated. "We are disturbed by images of police mistreatment of peaceful protestors both during the protests and after detentions," the official added. During the May 6 rally, which was dispersed by the police, and later at mass protests, hundreds of oppositionists were arrested. Most of them were released after a brief detention.
