Kazakh Jailed for Showing Finger to VIP Motorcade

A 22-year-old resident of Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, was arrested and sentenced to 5 days in jail for an insulting gesture towards a motorcade of a high-ranking official. The man showed a middle finger to the motorcade of the Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan. The police noticed the incident and arrested the offender. In court the defendant admitted guilt and declared his repentance. The court said that the defendant "offended, by his conduct, the human dignity of a public person, thereby showing disrespect to other people, disturbed public peace and tranquility of physical persons." As a result, the court found him guilty of "minor hooliganism" and sentenced to five days in prison.
