Russia Warns U.S. of Strong Response to Schneerson Library Ruling

Russia has condemned the US court ruling in the case of the so-called Schneerson library and threatened with a strong response if the US attempted to seize its properly abroad. According to the ruling, Russia is to pay Chabad-Lubavitch, an Orthodox Jewish movement, a fine of $50,000 a day until it releases the collection of books and manuscripts that Chabad has been claiming as its own. In its statement, Russia’s foreign ministry has decried the Washington court’s decision as “unprecedented,” warning it could lead to most grievous consequences, including Russia's retaliatory measures. Earlier, the Russian embasy in Washington stated: “Under the Russian law, the Schneersohn library is an integral part of Russian cultural heritage and can’t be alienated.”
