Senior Judge Sentenced for Swindling

Vladimir Bukreeev, formerly Deputy Chairman of the North-Caucasus Curcuit Military Court, was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. The court found him guilty of demanding and receiving $200,000 in exchange for a promise to arrange for a milder sentence in a case heard by another judge. The court found that Bukreev in fact had not intervened into the case and had simply appropriated the money; hence the charge is “swindling,” not “bribery.” Bukreev is known for sentencing in 2005 Colonel Yuri Budanov to 10 years of imprisonment for murdering Chechen girl Elsa Kungaeva.
