The Kyrgyz opposition clashed with police in mass unrest in several cities of Kyrgyzstan, including the capital Bishkek. Many opposition leaders have been arrested and face criminal charges in connection with the disorders. At least 12 people were reported killed by the police. President Kurmanbek Bakiyev has introduced a country-wide emergency regime.
