Belarusian authorities prohibited state-controlled media from covering the economic crisis in the country. As Russia's Kommersant newspaper reported, the presidential administration instructed editors-in-chief to refrain from publishing materials about Belarus's foreign currency shortages, rising prices, and unemployment. The move followed the publication in state-controlled media of a statement by Belarus National Statistical Committee head Vladimir Zinovsky that 600,000 jobs have been lost as a result of the crisis.
