Khodorkovsky Demands Trial Judge Be Prosecuted

Former Yukos head Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his business partner Platon Lebedev submitted a request to Russia’s Investigation Committee asking it to institute criminal proceedings against Judge Viktor Danilkin on the charges of “entering a knowingly wrongful sentence.” In December 2010, Danilkin found Khodorkovsky and Lebedev guilty and sentenced each to 13.5 years of imprisonment on corporate theft and money laundering charges. The defense has always insisted that the charges against Khodorkovsky and Lebedev are absurd and politically motivated. In February 2011, Danilkin’s assistant, Natalia Vasilieva (who later resigned), stated in an interview that the sentence had been written by somebody outside the court and imposed on Danilkin against his will.
