Russia’s Supreme Court upheld a decision of the Supreme Court of Tatarstan (a Russian constituency), which found illegal certain provisions of the Tatarstan Presidential inauguration law, including the text of President’s oath. The oath reads that the President swears to “serve the people of Tatarstan”, and not the people of the Russian Federation. In addition, the oath does not oblige the president of Tatarstan to abide by the federal Russian legislation and only provides for observing the Constitution of Russia and local laws.
